The Fairest Church in
Iceland

The Church of Kópavogur

"One stone holier than the others."

So state architect Hörđur called
The jewel on Kópavogur's neck.
The church which reminds one of
the exhortation
In the First Letter of Peter:
"Come to Him, to that living stone" -
To Jesus.

Architect Hörđur Bjarnason (1910-1990)
was state architect from 1954 to 1979,
Kópavogskirkja, consecrated in 1962,
being one of his best known works.
Among other works may be mentioned
the vault of Hallgrímskirkja
and the cathedral at Skálholt.
